Part 4 coming soon. Find part 3, 2, and 1 under Onyxflame (3) Nightprince (2) and Smokesong (1)
"You know, they didn't even stop to wonder if Wolf will even be there." I grumble to myself. Admittedly, I didn't think of it until now either but seriously, shut up. The others were irritating me and I only said I'd go because I felt like some space and wasn't letting Prince think that he was the boss of me. Not good enough, Tubbyprince. I snort, remembering his face. Prince and his friends act like they think they're Epona's gift to horsekind. It's really annoying and not true at all. I particularly enjoy annoying Prince, who seems to think he has the answer to everything. Out of the three of them, he's the most annoying. Spell in second. Hunter's actually bearable some of the time, thank god. Or I'd have to run away and join the circus up on the hill. Because Smoke is paranoid, the lowers are really stupid and we rarely even see Onyx.
I survive purely by not being near them half the time. I swear--
"Brave!" I hear Hunter's voice behind me. Oh man, seriously? I thought I was getting a break from them. Some days you just can't win.
"What? Seriously, if Prince is decided I'm not capable I swear to—"
"No, no that's not it. Frankly, I don't think he'd even try, after your... reply to him before." Hunter shudders.
"Would everyone stop cutting me off for a change?" I scowl.
"Oh, sorry. But one of the lowers has been sent away and we've all been moved. There's a new horse coming."
"Really? I liked that stable." Some days you really can't win. But... "Less lowers. Heh, that can't be bad then."
"Why are you so awful, Brave?"
"Blunt much, Dreamgazer?" His old name. Nothing annoys him more than being called that. He bristles.
"Fine, Brave. I'll go tell Prince you're not coming back. You win." He hisses, furious.
"I didnt say that." I relent. I think I may have crossed a line. "Look, I'm sorry. I didn't know it would make you that mad. You win, this time."
"Whatever."
Whoops. I've really upset him now. "Seriously? You got an apology. No one else has. Be more grateful."
Wrong thing to say. "Just shut up! Shut up Brave. I'm not taking this from you."
"You'd take it from others?" I can't help myself.
"Go away, Brave."
"I've never seen you this angry. Is it the name, or just me?"
"Both."
"Well, I see I can't win. What about that new horse?" I point out.
He turns and runs back to the stables. I follow, more because I don't want them to say bad things about me to this new horse. Then again, it could just be Prince's way of making me look stupid. No, actually. He's not that cunning.
"Yo, Hunter. What's made you so mad?" Spell calls to him.
"Look to my left a little. Then you'll have your answer."
Spell looks at me and I shrug a little.
I scowl at the stables. My name thing has been moved to the triple stall, along with—Epona save me, Spell and Hunter. "Great. I liked my corner. Please tell me She's not going to make me share with two of you."
Prince sighs. "Help me move the signs and we can switch. I'd rather be with Hunter and Spell anyway."
"Oh thank Epona, or I'd have to strangle one of you." I reply, sighing with relief. "Who's going to be with me, then?" Before, it was Onyx, which was bearable. She wasn't here most of the time anyway.
Prince looks at the sign and grimaces "The new horse. Please don't annoy him/her to death."
"Can't promise anything, Tubbyprince."
"You're never going to stop calling me that, are you?"
"Nope. Never. Hey, does it have the horse's name on the nameplate thing?"
"Yeah it does. Now come here and help me move mine."
I walk over to the nameplate, inspecting it. Ravenfall, it reads.
"A black horse, then?"
"Presumably." replies Spell. Hunter is promptly ignoring me.
"Thoroughbred, we're thinking." Prince estimates, butting the nameplate off with his nose. It nearly lands on me and I jump to the side.
"Watch it."
"I'm doing you a favour. You'd do well to be quiet." Prince points out.
"True enough." I pull my own nameplate off, carrying it over to the dark corner.
"You can only do that because you're taller." Prince scowls.
"Ha."
I lift my own nameplate where Prince's was and he does the same with the other spot.
"It might not be a thoroughbred, you know." It's the first thing Hunter's said since we got back, and we all look at him. He shrugs. "I was there when she and one of her friends was looking at the black icelandic. They seemed to adore it."
Prince looks put out. "There's never been two of any of us before."
"Speak for yourself!" calls out one of the lowers, but I ignore them.
